One-day workshop for high school students.


What? The workshop programme includes two modules: Conflict resolution and United Nations Security Council. Both workshops will provide interactive experiences to build key skills for tomorrow’s leaders, skills in negotiation, problem-solving, peace-building, and clear, effective communication. 

When? One workshop will be offered on Wednesday, 25th of March 2020.

How? The cost of the workshop is covered by Epoka University and is thus free to participants. However, spaces are limited.

Who? The programme is open to all current high school students (ages 14-18).

Transport to Epoka campus in Rinas, Tirana: Transport will be provided free of charge to and from Epoka University, with pick-up and drop-off from the center of Tirana.

Certificate: All participants will receive certificates for their participation to the workshop.

The participants will be tested for their knowledge and skills gained from this workshop and three best participants attending the exam will get scholarships in the form of discount in the tuition fee to study for Bachelor in Political Science and International Relations at Epoka University.

08:00: Departure of the bus from the centre of Tirana.

08:45: Arrival to Epoka University campus.

08:45 – 09:00: Registration of the participants.

09:00 – 09:05: Opening words by the master of the ceremony

09:05 – 09:15: Opening remarks

09:15 – 10:00: Opening panel with students of the Political Science and International Relations

10:00 - 12:00: Module 1: “Simulation of UN Security Council Meeting”, by Dr. Timothy Hagen.

This module offers students the opportunity to build research, problem-solving, and negotiating skills by assuming the role of a representative in the United Nations Security Council. Students will have the opportunity to research the position of a country on the UNSC and negotiate with representatives from other countries to work toward a solution on an important problem in the world. Topics may include resolutions on conflicts in Syria, Iraq, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, Nigeria, or Ukraine, and may also include issues such as the refugee crisis, illicit trafficking, or the control of weapons of mass destruction.

12:00 - 13:00: Lunch

13:00 - 15:00: Module 2: “How to Resolve Conflicts: A toolkit of 12 Essential Conflict Resolution Skills”, by Dr. Reina Shehi.

15:15 – 16:00: Concluding remarks and certificates award ceremony.
