Have you ever had a conflict with someone and wished you could have handled it better? Conflict comes about from differences we have in needs, values, interests and motivations. Conflict is not a problem in itself; it is what we do with it that counts. We cannot avoid conflicts, yet when we try to resolve them, we may find the peacemaking process exhilarating! Thus, are you ready to be part of this unique training and get a toolkit of 12 skills that will help you resolve problems, turn conflicts into opportunities and create more fulfilling relationships?

12:00 – 13:00: Lunch

13:00-15:00: Module 2: “Simulation of UN Security Council Meeting”, by Dr. Timothy Hagen.

This module offers students the opportunity to build research, problem-solving, and negotiating skills by assuming the role of a representative in the United Nations Security Council. Students will have the opportunity to research the position of a country on the UNSC and negotiate with representatives from other countries to work toward a solution on an important problem in the world. Topics may include resolutions on conflicts in Syria, Iraq, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, Nigeria, or Ukraine, and may also include issues such as the refugee crisis, illicit trafficking, or the control of weapons of mass destruction.

15:00 - 15:15: Coffee break.
