Assit. Prof. Dr. Bekir Cinar participated in the “International Scientific Conference on Participatory Democracy: Challenges to the EU”, held in 30-31 May, 2013 in Tirana, where he presented his paper called “Comparing Turkey V Albania: Participatory Democracy”.

The paper presented in the conference focus on explaining the level of political participation in Turkey in term of democratic development with Albania. Furthermore, the paper highlights the importance of political participation and its role in democratic development and democratic accountability. The paper tries to evaluate the relationship between the political participations and democratic transparency in Turkey, and attempts to establish a link with Albania and discuss Albanian political participation.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Bekir Cinar emphasized that it is clear that democracy is not only a political participation, and some argues that there can be no clear link established with the political participation and democratic transparency. The findings of the paper showed that democratic transparency may be reached by increasing the political participation of the people and without that participation, there can be more difficult to have a full transparency in any democratic state.

The paper presentation was welcomed and discussed by the conference participants.

The International Conference was organized by the Department on Governance and Communication in Marlin Barleti University. The main focus of the conference was on the Democracy in Albania and in the Region.
